Export from Israel - a unique challenge

Beside the political and the security problems, Israel suffers from another significant economic disadvantage – the great distant from its markets.

“Normal” developed countries export about 60-80 percent of the total export to their near neighbors and the export to the rest of the world is done mostly by big corporate companies.

Small and medium size companies export almost only to nearby countries.

Israel industries face a unique situation: they cannot export most products to Israel’s neighbors because (a) these neighboring countries don’t have market for most of the products that Israeli industries offer and (b) they don’t want to buy Israel made products.

Developing export to far country is a hard and expensive task. Small and medium size companies need help and encouragement to export.. The government support that Israel provides is limited and is done by Israeli Economic Mission small staff in each country.

“Shake hands with Israel Industry” is a new initiative aim to involve the local community, especially the business people, in an effort to expand the exports of Israeli companies to Canada. It is mean to enhance and leverage existing tools and efforts.. The basic idea of the project is to provide Canadian Jewish contact with the support necessary to help Israel by building bridges with Israeli companies and people.

How does it work?

The Israel Canada chamber of commerce in Tel-Aviv with the help of group of people in Canada (starting with Toronto) will match Canadian people that volunteer to take part in the project with Israeli companies that express their willing to develop export to Canada.

The matching will match the background and experience of the volunteers and the needs of the Israeli companies.

The volunteers will help the Israeli company in many practical ways: providing strategic advice on forming relationships, providing local information on the community, identify key contacts in the Canadian market and assisting with contacts.. They can get professional advice from the Israeli Economic Mission staff and from other volunteers.

The Israeli companies will assist the volunteer when he or she comes to Israel by showing them the company and reviewing the needs of the Israeli company..

This is a voluntary program and no formal, binding relationship will be expected or entered into between the Israeli company and the volunteer.
