Round Table With Canadian Ambassador

Members of the Chamber are invited to a meeting with Mr. Donald Sinclair the Canadian Ambassador in Israel. The meeting will take place at the Canadian Embassy during the second half of November.  The aim of the meeting will be to hear and voice opinions and to discuss problems relating to the economic relations between the two countries.  Companies interested in participating should contact the Chamber of Commerce.  The number of participants is limited and will be on a first registered - first invited basis.

 

Sake Hands With Israel's Industry Project

The number of Canadian Businessmen interested in helping Israeli companies make connections with Canadian companies continues to grow.  Recent additions include representatives of the food, jewelry and auto parts industries as well as market researchers.

 

Recommendation To Renew And Widen The Canada-Israel Industrial Research  And Development Fund (CIIRDF)

The Canadian Consulting Firm GGI conducted a study for the Canadian government regarding the CIIRDF.  The study covered 18 projects financed by the Fund and concluded that these projects would result in 544 million dollars in sales and 135 million dollars in net profits.  The conclusion of the study was categorical in recommending the renewal and widening of the activities of the Fund.

The Canada-Israel Parliamentary Dinner will take place on November 1st.  The Canada-Israel Committee organizes this dinner once every few years. The Guest of Honor will be the Canadian Prime Minister.  Other participants will include the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Science and Technology, Ministers and 2000 guests. In the course of the dinner a film highlighting the achievements of the Fund over the past 10 years will be shown and it is expected that the continuation of the Fund over the next several years will be announced.

 

 Unprecedented Number of Missions in Any One Month

Twelve individual groups will be visiting Israel from the various Canadian communities in October 2004. The visits are being organized by UIA Federations Canada ("UIAFC"), and will include more than 330 participants. This is an unprecedented number of missions in any one month. Another unique aspect is that in addition to the larger cities, Toronto and Montreal, nearly all the outlying Jewish communities from Canada are represented.  Groups include provincial politicians, opinion-makers and prominent business people, with a high representation of non-Jewish participants; individual community, leadership, and campaign missions; a solidarity volunteer group; and philanthropic visits. Participants return to Canada as strengthened advocates for Israel, with a heightened awareness of the needs and reality in the country.

 

 Mr. David Azrieli and  Mr. Gil Blutreich are recipients of the “Entrepreneur of the Year” award in recognition of their business activities in Canada. Gil Blutreich is the President of the Canadian real estate company “Skyline” and owner of the Israeli real estate company “Meisharim”.  He received the Ontario “Entrepreneur of the Year” award for his activities in the tourist and hospitality sector.  David Azriel was elected “Building Contractor of the Year” because of his many contributions to architecture in Canada. There were other Israeli participants in the competition who did not win any prizes.  These included Liran Segal, 23 years of age, proprietor of a software company in Toronto who was a candidate in the “Young Entrepreneur” category and Oved Tal, proprietor of a Hi-Tech firm in the security and communications sector. The “Entrepreneur of the Year” prize is awarded to exceptional entrepreneurs who have demonstrated success in the business sector along with commitment to their businesses and their community.

 

Israeli Wine Tasting at the Sanda Ainsley Gallery in Toronto.
A wine tasting event of Israeli wines that have recently received the approval of the LCBO and the marketing of which will begin next month will take place on November 9th.  Special emphasis will be given to Israeli boutique wines: Castel, Recanti, Emek Ayala Vineyard, Carmei Yosef Vineyard, Golan Heights and Carmel Vineyards.  The economic delegation assisted with the organization of the event which will be under its auspices

 

Air Canada Successfully Concludes its Restructuring Program.

The program lasted for 18 months and the company is no longer under the protection of the courts.  The company drastically reduced its expenses and implemented far reaching organizational changes.  Beginning November 1st Air Canada will operate night flights from Tel Aviv to Toronto.  These flights will enable passengers to make connections to a wide range of destinations in North and South America early in the morning and arrive at their destinations the same day.

A Canadian Space Industry Delegation will Visit Israel at the End of November

The organizers include the Canadian and Israeli Space Agencies as well as the Israel Export Institute. The Canadian delegation will include at least eight leading Canadian Space companies.

 

The Canadians have begun preparations for the 2010 Winter Olympics and will soon begin selecting equipment and service suppliers. The Canadians would welcome the participation of Israeli companies in the Olympics, especially in the areas of security, communications and the environment. Report of the Canadian Embassy in Israel

 

 

 

The Canadian embassy in Israel has organized a delegation of Canadian companies to a Telecom exhibition that will take place at the beginning of November in Israel.  Some of the companies will display at the Embassy’s pavilion and others will have their own booths.  For additional information contact: : jessica.nachlas

 

The Canadian embassy ran a pavilion to promote Israeli-Canadian business contacts at the Paris Food Show October 17-21.  5200 exhibitors from 94 countries participated. For additional information contact : Ms. Mona Mansur-Ashkar.

Embassy of Israel in Ottawa- public events roundup

 

 

 

September 7th – United Israel Appeal/United Jewish appeal campaign launch.

Ambassador Alan Baker was a keynote speaker at the campaign launch top donors’ event in Ottawa. 

 

September 21stIsraeli Culture Forum, plenary session.

The embassy of Israel hosted representatives of the Canada-Israel Culture Foundation, the Canadian Film Institute and organizations of the Ottawa Jewish community, for a plenary session for next year cultural events. They will include: Chamber music concert at the University of Ottawa with Israeli artists, A Sephardic culture week in Ottawa with concerts, lectures and an exhibition, public events for Hanukkah and Independence Day and an Israeli Film festival in the spring.

  

September 26th – Ambassador Alan Baker meet with the Israeli community in Ottawa at the Israeli House. Ambassador Baker discussed current events in Israel and Canada-Israel bilateral issues such as the embassy emphasis on increasing two-way trade.

  

September 27th – Ambassador Baker presents his credentials to the Governor General of Canada.

Ambassador Alan Baker presented his credentials to Her Excellency Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada at her official residence - Rideau Hall. A short meeting between the two followed the presentation.

 

October 13th - Accreditation Reception at the Ambassador’s residence.

Top Canadian government officials, parliamentarians, diplomats and Jewish community leaders were among the many attending the reception.

 

October 14th – CIIRDF luncheon.

Ambassador Baker was the guest of the board of the Canada-Israel Research and Development Foundation. 

 

October 17th – Raoul Wallenberg commemoration event in Ottawa.

Deputy Head of Mission, Ronen Gil-Or, spoke on behalf of the State of Israel in an event commemorating 60 years of the activities of the righteous of the nations Raoul Wallenberg in Ottawa together with the Hungarian and Swedish ambassadors and the Canadian Minister of Justice.

Headlines From Israeli Newspapers

Provided by the generosity of the “Ifat” Company

 

 

The Israeli computer company EMT signed a representation and distribution agreement with the Canadian company UP Time which provides software instruments for managing performance and service availability (Daily Mail website Oct. 12).

 

 

Channel 9 (“Israel Plus”) has signed an agreement to provide content to channel RTN/WMNB which broadcasts in the Russian language in the United States and Canada (Ha’Aretz October 12).

 

Lev Levayev purchased a diamond polishing operation in Canada for 6.5 million dollars  (Yediot Ahronot, October 26).

 

The Israeli company Amdocs is about to sign a billing service supply contract with Telus of Canada for tens of millions of dollars (Globes, September 10)

 

The huge research and development grants that Canada gives to technology companies has made the cost of employing an engineer in Canada cheaper than in Israel (Ha’Aretz October 15).

 

Real Estate

 

The Canadian firm El-Ad, controlled by Yitzhak Tshuva, one of the three largest residential real estate companies in Canada, is preparing to raise a billion shekels from institutional investors by way of a bond offering in Tel Aviv (Globes, October 12).

 

The Electra real estate company has purchased a residential building in Montreal for 11.75 million Canadian dollars (Yediot Ahronot, October 27)

 

The Ravad real estate company controlled by Abraham Green has purchased an income-producing property for 13.6 million dollars (Globes, September 9).

 

Two Canadian investors have purchased 939 dunams from Shmuel Einav in East Mattitayu with the aim of building 2500 residential units (Globes, August 23.

 

The Electra real estate company has purchased an office building for 87 million shekels in Montreal (Globes, October 19).
