What’s New

 

Roundtable Meeting with Canadian Ambassador, Mr. Donald Sinclair with members of the Chamber will take place on January 19, 2005.  The agenda will include opening remarks by the Ambassador and the President of the Chamber,   Advocate Yehuda Raveh, introduction of participants, review of 2005 plans of the Canadian Embassy and the opportunity for the participants to raise various issues for discussion.

 

A representative of Global CCT which specializes in marketing “Do it Yourself” and household products to large chain stores will be visiting Israel and on December 20th will be meeting with Israeli companies.  Meetings will be arranged by Keren Zaguri of the Export Institute.

 

A Large and Successful Canadian Toy Manufacturer (under Israeli ownership)  is prepared to market unique and original plastic toys and children’s furniture.  Proposals should be made in English and should include details about the company, its website, photos and description of the products it sells, production ability, sales numbers for domestic and export markets, customers, name and details of the contact person.  Interested parties should contact the Chamber.

 

Canadian Space Agency Visit is Cancelled

The Canadian Space Agency postponed its reciprocal visit that was scheduled to take place this month.  The reason for the cancellation is difficulty in signing up Canadian companies for the visit.  An attempt will be made to send a delegation in the coming months. The delegation will sign a cooperation agreement with the Israeli Space Agency.

 

Canadian Involvement in the Middle East Grows

 In an interview with the CBC-NW network, the Israeli Ambassador to Canada, Mr. Alan Baker, stated that the Israeli Prime Minister had two telephone conversations with the Canadian Prime Minister in which he suggested that Canada widen and deepen its involvement in the Middle East. Mr. Baker praised the willingness of the Canadian government to widen its involvement in the Middle East and noted that Canada can assist the Palestinians in establishing a reliable system of governance as well as assist both sides to the conflict because of its own experience with two separate cultural communities existing side by side.

A Delegation of Ontario Police Chiefs Plans to Visit Israel

The Jewish Federation of Ontario and the Trade Delegation has begun to organize a delegation of more than 20 Police and Security heads from Ontario.  Heading the delegation will probably be the Minister of Internal Security of Ontario.  The goals of the visit are: to learn and exchange information on internal security issues and to become acquainted with Israel security technology and products.   

 

The General Manager of the Association of Electronics Industry and

Software Visits Canada.

Uri Har, General Manager of the Association of Electronics Industry and

Software in Israel visited Canada in the Toronto area at the initiative of the Trade Delegation. The visit included:

1) Meetings with the heads of Canadian IT and electronics industries, government factors – federal and provincial, as well as with local experts and industrial companies.

2) Lecture on the Israeli Electronics and Software industries

3) Meetings with the media

The Canadian Industry Ministry expressed an interest in developing cooperative activities with the Israeli organization.

 

The Canadians have begun preparations for the 2010 Winter Olympics

The Trade Delegation has been in contact with the person responsible for security arrangements in the Organizing Committee of the 2010 Winter Olympics.  With the help of the Export Institute a presentation will be prepared which will include details of Israeli companies capable of supplying products or services for Olympic Security.

Report of the Canadian Embassy in Israel

 

The Embassy participated in the Telecommunications Exhibition along with five Canadian companies as well as representatives of the Canadian-Israel Research and Development Fund along with Ontario’s representative for business  development in the Middle East.  The five companies that participated were: NE2 Corp, Iristel Inc., Wirless 2000, Unity Wireless, OrbitlQ. The Embassy organized meetings with Israeli companies for the companies as well as a meeting with the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mr. Ehud Olmert.

 

In addition, Dr. Michael Binder, a senior staffer of the Canadian government gave a lecture on Canadian innovations in Telecommunications.

The Elisra Group signed a contract with the Canadian Army to continue supplying electronic combat systems for helicopter defense. The scope of the contract is 25 million shekels (Yediot Ahronot, December 2)

 

Amdocs has signed a contract with Telos, the second largest media conglomerate in Canada.  The contract obligates Amdocs to take care of all billing activities, providing solutions for managing orders and integration services. The worth of the contract is estimated at 60-70 million dollars and will be over several years (Globes December 1)

 

Magal Security Systems has announced an order for 3.4 million dollars from the Canadian Penitentiary System, for the security of 8 penitentiaries (Globes November 25) 

 

Africa Israel Company lost 16 million shekels from its Canadian Fashion Bathing Suits operation (Yediot Ahronot, November 29)

 

The Israeli Company Spetrocket signed a deal for 3 million dollars with the Canadian company Global View.  The company will set up operations centers to manage their vehicle fleet, and their shipping fleets.  The system will be based on GSM technology and the satellite navigation system GPS (Maariv, November 17)

 

Yossi Tanuri has been appointed the Managing Director of the Canada Israel Appeal (Yediot Ahronot, November 15)

 

Aber, the Canadian Diamond Company has increased its sales of raw diamonds to Israeli Diamond Cutters as well as its purchase of polished diamonds.  This was announced by company managers visiting Israel this week (Globes, November 11)

 

Air Canada has cut the number of its weekly flights to Toronto from seven to four (Ha’Aretz, November 11)

 

Entrepreneur David Azrieli intends to issue 10-15 percent of the stocks of “Kanit”, the group he owns in Israel.  “Kanit” will be issued at a minimal value of 3-5 billion shekels.  The magazine Canadian Business has ranked Azrieli amongst the ten richest persons in Canada (Yediot Ahronot, November 9)

 

Sinron Company which develops cosmetic equipment announced yesterday that the Canadian Health Authority authorized the sale of VelaSmooth to treat cellulite (Globes October 20)

 The Canadian Investment House Tri Continental Capital is raising 100 million dollars in Israel for its new real estate fund, which will concentrate on financing residential building projects (Maariv, December 8)

 

The Edgar Investment Company has signed agreements to purchase two office buildings in Toronto for a total investment of 19 million dollars (Globes November 12)

 

Kanaf 2000 owned by Sherem-Pudim-Kellner has purchased 30 percent of an exclusive hotel management company in Canada for 10 million dollars.  The hotels are located in Edmonton (HaZofeh, November 17)

 

The Angel General Development Company controlled by Ya’acov Angel is currently initiating three large projects that include 916 residential units in Montreal Canada.  Sales are estimated to be 200-250 million dollars (Globes October 22)

 

Lehman Brothers Investment Bank will for the first time enter into cooperation with an Israeli firm and will invest 18 million dollars in Ya’acov Angel’s Canadian project (Globes, November 22)
