Press Release

ISRAEL AND CANADA ESTABLISH COOPERATION IN AGRICULTURE AND AGRI-FOOD SCIENCES

Israel’s Agriculture Research Organization (ARO), signed a Letter of Intent on agricultural research and development with Agriculture and Agri-food Canada, today in Ottawa.

The signing of the Letter of Intent on agriculture research and development was preceded by a three-day Canada-Israel agricultural research seminar hosted by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada that was the first in its kind between the two countries. The seminar covered four main areas that are at the forefront of agricultural research in the world today: Functional Genomics, Food Safety and Quality, Insect Resistance and Precision Agriculture.

Scientists from Israel and Canada have identified specific projects in which complementary work could be of great benefit to both countries. They include solutions for better and safer agricultural products and farming practices as well as the utilization of agricultural research for medical applications.

Cooperation between the scientists will commence immediately after the conclusion of the research seminar in Ottawa and will encompass bilateral visits and exchange of scientists between the two research organizations.  Israel and Canada have agreed to take the cooperation a step forward and sign a Memorandum of Understanding on agricultural research and development in the coming months.
